Finding a house directly can save a lot of money in brokerage fees. Some of the ways you can find out if any house is available on lease are :
- The town office
- The local coffee house - the regulars often meet daily or weekly and exchange information and gossip on the latest happenings in town. They may provide information on the houses available on rent.
- Local newspapers and newsletters

If you are not familiar with a particular area and wish to rent a home, it is advisable to research the locality online. Depending on the population of the area, there may be a few local websites which are updated with the latest trends and have information on property for sale or rent.
Local classified websites and Craigslist also have a lot of advertisements from home owners wishing to lease out their homes and users who want to rent property which is as per their specifications and within their budget.
They can also talk to local real estate agents, who will be able to inform them about houses available. Their websites may not be updated very often, but speaking to them can be very informative as they provide the latest information.
